With a Little Help From My Friends
This is James Tuverson’s layout (my new inspiration)
While waiting for the foam board glue to dry, and a rather boring, few days beyond that, I happened upon a
video that intrigued me.
I can’t recall ever seeing anything quite like this layout. I mean, sure, it’s got the usual, basic oval concept, it’s got lots of buildings and lights and such, and it’s even got some trains running around joyously!
So why the intrigue? It’s BEAUTIFUL! Now to be clear, I’ve researched a multitude of layouts, looking for “that one.” The one that gets your motor running. The one that reminds me of why I wanted my own layout in the first place! Here’s a guy that built his for the sheer enjoyment of the hobby.
AND, he did it in LESS THAN FOUR YEARS!
Again, I’ve seen thousands of layouts that their owners spent years, sometimes a lifetime building, trying to get every little detail just right, nay, perfect. They’re trying to duplicate a real life scenario, a place where they grew-up, or in some cases, a rail line where they used to work.
There is NOTHING wrong with that. It’s wonderful to have that sort of dedication to their hobby/layout. I don’t possess that kind of talent, and I’m too old to get every detail, “just so”.
For me, I just want to watch the choo-choo’s run around a layout with only a small amount of interaction from me. On the other hand, it might be fun to make the trains pull in to a station, switch tracks, or yeah, maybe pick-up/drop-off some freight at some industry.
DAMN! Here I go again. This is starting to hurt my brain…
